Energy Efficiency IncentivesIncentives Available for MD Industrial Facilities to Improve Energy Efficiency The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has announced the launch of the Maryland Save Energy Now Program. This program offers low-cost energy assessments for Maryland industrial facilities and technical support for the implementation of energy efficiency projects. In addition, Save Energy Now provides software tools and training on industrial energy efficiency and assists companies in identifying project financing opportunities, including loans and grants. MEA Director Malcolm Woolf encourages industrial facilities to take advantage of this new program, noting, "Energy efficiency improvements and the use of combined heat and power systems are proven to reduce operating costs and support a clean, sustainable economy. Maryland's business leaders know the value of efficiency, sustainability, and cost reductions in today's economy, and we hope they will take advantage of this program to further improve their competitive advantage." Free monthly training sessions, which have been valued at more than $200 each, began on September 16 and will continue into 2011. Riyaz Papar from Hudson Technologies will conduct the training. The October webinar will cover compressed air systems and the November webinar will focus on pumping systems. In addition to free online training, Maryland Save Energy Now offers low-cost, facility-specific energy assessments for industrial facilities in Maryland, which are conducted by the University of Maryland Manufacturing Assistance Program (UMMAP). "Signing up for an assessment is easy, and the value of this service can save tens of thousands of dollars for each facility," notes John Adelsberger, MEA's manager of the Maryland Save Energy Now program.?Maryland Save Energy Now also provides information on financial incentives and other helpful resources available for businesses, including those offered by Maryland's investor-owned utilities, the MEA, Federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Energy, and third-party investors. MEA offers additional opportunities to commercial entities across the state, as well. The Jane E. Lawton Conservation Loan Program (JELLP) issues loans to businesses that fund energy efficiency improvements, and the Mid Size Solar Grants Program provide funds of up to $50,000 to businesses for the installation of solar photovoltaic and solar hot water systems. Maryland Save Energy Now and other MEA programs support EmPOWER Maryland, an initiative to meet the Governor's goal of reducing per-capita electricity use and peak demand 15% by 2015. Maryland Save Energy Now is part of the national Save Energy Now program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Technologies Program.
