Welcome to Choptank Electric's JobLine OnLine. At the present time we have one opening for a VICE PRESIDENT ENGINEERING SERVICES in our Headquarters office located in Denton, MD. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Education: A bachelor’s degree in an engineering curriculum (electrical engineering preferred) is required. Additional specialized training in electric utility construction, design and planning is preferred. Must be a registered professional engineer in the State of Maryland or become registered in Maryland within one year through reciprocity. Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible engineering experience including supervisory responsibility. Experience must include the design of transmission/distribution substations, high voltage transmission lines, distribution lines and facilities, underground switchgear and systems, transformer banks, capacitor installations and similar type facilities, metering connections and equipment, solid-state relaying and physical design of switchgear. Must have electrical, mechanical, structural and architectural experience as needed for complete design, including foundation and structure. Construction experience helpful. Must have experience in organizing and supervising work groups, and coordinating and implementing plans and designs with other departments. Electric utility operations and safety experience preferred. Job Knowledge: Must have working knowledge of preparation and development of long range engineering studies, electric metering and sectionalizing studies, electric metering and sectionalizing equipment, and standards and specifications for construction of all electric plant facilities. Should be proficient with personal computers and MS Office products, GIS systems and distribution design software programs. Must have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code, the National Electrical Code, O.S.H.A. regulations, standard utility specifications, construction materials and practices, construction/material contracts, assembly and material specifications. A working understanding of RUS standards, specifications, and construction practices is preferred. Should have working knowledge of wholesale power market, trends and development in engineering practices. Candidate should have the ability to implement 21st Century Utility innovation and leadership: •Develop industry leading Asset Management Program •Assure power loss management optimization •Enhance system reliability and performance characteristics •Lead the Cooperative's grid modernization initiative •Develop an optimized storm response plan and associated programs •Enhance safety throughout the organization in cooperation with the Administrator of Safety, Compliance and Safety Culture •Develop programs designed to lower wholesale power cost and total delivered power cost Abilities and Skills: Must be able to supervise and direct department staff in designing all outside plant facilities required for the efficient operation of the electrical transmission and distribution system. Must have the skill to recognize the system needs and to prepare designs that can meet the electrical and mechanical demands, while also fulfilling aesthetic, economic and environmental requirements. This would include complete plans and designs of substations, transmission lines, distribution lines and facilities
for underground systems, transformers, regulators, capacitors and system sectionalizing and installations, and other special projects and loads. Some design of structures, minor buildings, and substation/tower foundations will be required. Must have the ability to work with other department personnel and supervisors in carrying out plans, construction, contracts, etc. Must be able to innovate new methods and designs for improving system and plant facilities. Ability to organize and train an efficient work group. Must be able to effectively communicate information, both verbally and written, on the Cooperative’s goals, policies, practices and procedures to employees, members, lenders, insurance companies, MPSC, and governmental agencies. Working Conditions: Most of work schedule will be within General Engineering office. Some field trips will be required for inspection and data acquisition, in varying weather conditions. Outside meetings will be necessary, occasional out-of-town trips and meetings. Can expect periodic technical seminars, conferences, civic and professional meetings.
